Evidencing Personal Skills in Literacy and Numeracy - Guidance to Teachers and Employers
Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) together with the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), Standards Verification UK (SVUK ) and the Institute for Learning (IfL) have been working together to define the process for evidencing the personal skills of teachers, tutors and trainers in the lifelong learning sector.
Evidencing personal skills in literacy and numeracy is a mandatory element of professional formation and contributes to gaining licensed practitioner status Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) and Associate Teacher Learning and Skills (ATLS). It is necessary for teachers who are required or opt to gain licensed practitioner status to provide evidence that they have these skills. More information about professional formation can be found on the Institute for Learning (IfL) website.

"Professional status recognises that an individual teacher has gone beyond initial qualification, to draw together their subject expertise with the skills and knowledge acquired through teacher training and embedding these in their day-to-day practice. Teachers with professional status know that their learning continues after initial teacher training ends. They commit to lifelong professional development so that their skills remain up-to-date and responsive to the changing needs of learners. In aspiring to QTLS or ATLS status, a teacher makes a statement about how they view their professionalism."
